Snow Falling On Cedars
The movie Snow Falling On Cedars is based on a piece of historical fiction. This film takes place in Seattle around the years of 1942. The movie is about two characters who were in love in their childhood (Hatsue, a second generation Japanese girl and Ishmael, an American boy) and as they grew up everything fell apart because of the circumstances. Further Hatsue end up getting married with a Japanese American. This character was accused of murder and at the end he was found innocent thanks to Ishmael. Hatsue and Ishmael never end up together because Hatsue already had two children and was married with the Japanese American.
In my opinion, this movie was one of the best films that I have seen because I can compare how the movie Snow Falling On Cedars and the novel Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet were developed. First, the movie and the novel both take place in Seattle around 1942. Second, the movie and the novel were developed with a contrast from their adult time to their childhood time and vice versa. Third, the character Henry’s father and Hatsue’s mother tried to influence their children, so both parents were strict. This is why I think the movie and the novel had some similarities. In addition, the way that the movie and the novel are developed, I think both have a good writing style. As a final point, we should learn that if we don't think before acting, similar things like the film can happen to us. In fact, I recommend this movie to anyone interesting in to have an idea of what was happening around 1942 in U.S.
“Crowds”
People in crowds act different than when they are alone, which means that in crowds they think and behave differently than when they are alone. The word crowd means a group of people temporally gathered, so it could happen in baseball game or in any place where many people gather for the same reason.
A crowd is an example of collective behavior. Collective behavior is social conduct that could be unorganized or unexpected. For example, a rock band starts to practice their new song in a garage. There is one person that stops to watch them, then others come to see them playing because they heard the great music. So people start to put their hands up and screaming that they play awesome. In fact, the crowd gives the band money for them to play more songs. As we can see, the band didn't expected what just happened because they were just practicing and not calling the attention of others.
So as we already know, a crowd is a temporally gathered group of people watching or expecting something to happen with such behavior that you would not see on them if they were alone. There are three types of behavior that I know, based on my experiences and observations. The first example is a Jazzy person. One day in school there was a guy that was walking in the hallways heading to his classes, so you might think that he was just a quiet guy. However, when I saw him on a play, people wanted to kicked him out because he couldn't stop talking or laughing like he was in a jungle. The second example is Effective. When I am in my room alone or beside my family, I don’t want to see any one beside me nor talking to me, but when I am around others I get efficient and chatty. The last example is “Show off”. I had a partner from the park. He was someone quiet and not even a joker at all. Then I saw a video of him on YouTube. He was stopping the traffic in the middle of the street, without his shirt and screaming in order to show his friend that he is cool. Over all, because of this three examples, this is why I think that people in crowds behave differently than when they are alone.
In conclusion, I think that people might act differently in crowds because while they are with others, their behaviors become a collective behavior. In fact, when people are in crowds, they usually follow others. This is why the collective behavior become bigger. Therefore, people in crowds act different than when they are alone.
